Record Description There are interesting ancient hedgerows all the way along the footpath from Hudswell down to Richmond, but perhaps the most interesting section is the 200m length of hedgerow on the edge of the Swale Woodlands just before the track leads down to Round How and thence to Richmond. This hedgerow is of special interest in that it consists mainly of ancient wild cherry trees and hollies all of great age. Sadly several of the old cherry trees have been cut down recently and are dying. The holly trees have all been coppiced in the past, probably for animal fodder, the largest of these measures 6.5m girth at the base.
